Arguments for the Descent of Jesus

The concept of Jesus descending from heaven to earth is argued from hadiths. Traditional scholars and interpreters of the Qur’an present these hadiths collectively as definitive evidence supporting this idea. As for the Qur’an, there is no explicit text directly indicating the second coming of Jesus (PBUH). However, these scholars believe that certain verses of the Qur’an contain indications supporting the descent of Jesus (PBUH). Among these, the primary source is the above-mentioned verses concerning the ascension of Jesus (PBUH) and referring to that he is alive. Additionally, Surah Al-Zukhruf (43:61), referring to Jesus as a sign of the Day of Judgment, also supports the idea of his second coming.

Therefore, when the verses affirming the ascension and establishing that he is alive, and the hadiths about his descent and subsequent death are interpreted in the light of each other, Allah’s complete plan becomes clear. If you study the verses, you learn that they establish Jesus’s (PBUH) ascension and his ongoing life and hint at his descent. Hadiths also confirm his descent and subsequent death. This affirmation of Jesus’s (PBUH) second coming and subsequent death necessarily implies his [prior] ascension and ongoing life. Therefore, these Hadiths prove to be the supportive and corroborative of the mentioned verses.
