2. Consensus of the Ummah on the Concept of the Descent of Jesus

Scholars agree on the concept of the descent of Jesus. Thus, it is one of those concepts on which there is consensus (ijma) in the Ummah:

Imam Ibn Jarir Tabari in his Jami' al-Bayan wrote:

The consensus is that Jesus is alive in the heavens and will descend and kill the Dajjal and support the religion. (2/52)

Imam Ibn Atiyah in Al-Bahr al-Muhit states:

The entire Ummah agrees, based on the mutawatir hadiths, that Jesus is alive in the heavens and will descend in the last era and kill the pig. (2/360)

Imam Ash’ari writes:

The Ummah has consensus that Allah Almighty raised Jesus to the heavens. (Al-Ibanah 'an Usul al-Diyanah 1/115)

In Al-Talkhis al-Khabir, it is stated:

The historians and interpreters agree that Jesus was raised to heaven with his body alive. (3/462)

Imam Shams al-Din Saffarini, a renowned scholar of the Hanbali school, writes:

As for consensus, the Ummah is united on his [Jesus’s] descent, and no one among the people of the Shariah has opposed it. Only philosophers and atheists have denied it, whose opposition is not considered significant in religious matters. The consensus of the Ummah has been established that he [Jesus] will descend and rule according to this Muhammadan Shariah. (Sharh Aqidah Saffarini 2/90)
